The Design Process
Recommendations and opinions of our physicians, nurses and staff were integral to design of Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center's new Edison Lakes campus.
The design process is taking place in stages. During schematic design, designated SJRMC administration, directors and associates joined with the architects to form user groups.
User groups continue to work on room layouts and equipment placement. Groups are developing standards while others are looking at unique areas and rooms. Each group is responsible for designing an efficient, customer friendly facility.
Core of the new campus will be a large, two-story diagnostic and treatment center to include:
- the emergency department
- imaging, diagnostics
- surgery, cath lab
- interventional cardiology
- conferencing areas
Multiple-story medical office buildings will connect to the hospital, providing physicians, staff and patients quick, convenient access.
User groups are aided in the design process by mock-up rooms. These are life-size models of future rooms used in acute care, intensive care, pre-post procedural, emergency, labor & delivery, and operating. The mock-up rooms are located in the Edison Lakes Medical Center on Day Road. The rooms will be filled with as much equipment and furniture as possible to help architects and designers understand how physicians, staff and patients will function in the spaces, experience what the floor plans will feel like, and determine what equipment and furniture to select.
"We are committed to receiving feedback from all associates and physicians regarding the design of the new hospital", said Nancy R. Hellyer, President and CEO, Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. "These mock-up rooms are another way we hope our associates can participate in the design of our new hospital".
