Staggering Statistics

In the planning for the new Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, the sheer size and scope of the numbers coming out of the project are amazing:

  • 633,000 square feet (total amount of space in the new building)
  • 375,000 cubic yards of soil will be excavated
  • 24,000 cubic yards of concrete will be poured for the foundation
  • 5,000 tons of structural steel (the equivalent of 833 elephants!)
  • 13 acres of tile, carpeting and resilient floor coverings
  • 2 acres of glass (the size of one city block)
  • 2.3 million square feet of drywall (the size of 52 football fields!)
  • 1.1 million pounds of duct work
