In the planning for the new Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center,
the sheer size and scope of the numbers coming out of the project
are amazing:
- 633,000 square feet (total amount of space in the new building)
- 375,000 cubic yards of soil will be excavated
- 24,000 cubic yards of concrete will be poured for the foundation
- 5,000 tons of structural steel (the equivalent of 833 elephants!)
- 13 acres of tile, carpeting and resilient floor coverings
- 2 acres of glass (the size of one city block)
- 2.3 million square feet of drywall (the size of 52 football fields!)
- 1.1 million pounds of duct work
